This is an interesting cross between the small podded Bush Poppy and the Kykeon Pink n' White (formally the Kandahar Afghan). 2ft or so in height, multi podded with rich pink flowers and round lightly ribbed pods.

Papaveraceae: a rare annual of arable land, to 30cm in height. Found mainly on sandy soils. 2-6cm pale red flowers with bark basal blotch, flowering from May-August. The seed pods are long and bristly. Local and scarce, mainly in Southern England. Native to Central and southern Europe, including Britain.

An infusion or syrup made from the petals is used as a sudorific.

Prefers a well-drained sandy loam in a sunny position. Sow seeds in early spring in situ.

Papaveraceae:  annual growing to 0.6 m (2ft) by 0.2 m (0ft 8in) in height, hardy to Zone 5. Flowering from June to July, and the seeds ripen from Aug to September, Seeds are eaten raw or cooked, and much used as flavouring in cakes, bread, fruit salads, and have very nice nutty flavour, employed as a mild pain reliever and as a treatment for irritable coughs, said to be non-addictive. Native to Europe, including Britain, from Scandinavia south and east to N. Africa and temperate Asia, Fertile well drained soil in full sun, Sow in spring on the surface of sow seeds in spring in situ.

Papaveraceae: annual growing to 0.6 m (2ft) by 0.2 m (0ft 8in), hardy to zone 5, Single scarlet flowers with black or white cross in the centre.

I have purchased these to grow myself this summer, hence the reason for not including my own photo of the flowers, as I haven’t taken any yet.

The flowers of corn poppy have a long history of medicinal usage, especially for ailments in the elderly and children, chiefly employed as a mild pain reliever and as a treatment for irritable coughs, it also helps to reduce nervous over-activity, unlike the related opium poppy (P. somniferum) it is non-addictive. The seeds are used as a flavouring in cakes, bread, fruit salad, a syrup can be prepared from the scarlet flower petals, it is used in soups, gruels etc., also a red dye from the petals is used as a food flavouring, especially in wine.
